I stumbled upon this by accident and decided to post it here in case someone else was wondering how to do it.
I have only tested this on a HP iPAQ rx3115 running "Pocket PC 2003 Pro" with "Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for Pocket PC". I assume it will work on other handhelds and operating systems but do not know for sure (send a message to mike--at--wifidude.com if you verify that this works with your PPC and operating system and I will post the results here).
When your next appointment (wake-up) comes up, the PPC will turn on and Media Player will pick up where it left off when you powered off the PPC.
- Open "Calendar" and schedule your wake-up time
- Make sure the "Reminder" field is set to "Remind me"
- Open Media Player and load/open your favorite tune/mp3
- Tap the play button to start the music (make sure the volume is on/up)
- Turn the PPC power off
