Find Your Brewing Roots

Have you ever wondered if your ancestors were brewers? When I started researching my family history I was trying to find out if I was related to one of the first commercial brewers in Cedar Rapids because he had the same last name as mine. I knew it wasn't going to be an easy task because history was my least favorite subject in school, I found it to be very boring.

I did not find a connection to the local brewer but I did discover that Benjamin Franklin was my 7th Great Uncle! All of the sudden history wasn't so boring. I later learned that my Great Uncle Benjamin brewed his own beer and I even found a sketchy homebrew recipe that contained spruce and molasses. Most brewers have heard Uncle Ben's famous quote, "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." Check out the book titled ""Fart Proudly", it contains several funny stories by Uncle Ben.
